After a week he still had the car and replied to my third attempt to buy the car. He said at full price I could have it. I dropped what I was doing and drove to Tennessee and let him know I was an hour or less away. He replied via email that he had once again "sold" the vehicle. No call
The car was priced attractively and I called on a Saturday morning at 8:00 and inquired about it. I told Marvin I would go by the bank and get the cash and all I needed was an address to meet him and do the deal. It would have been a two hour drive each way and I emailed, called and left voicemail and even texted him. No reply and a Saturday wasted.
First I have to say that I did NOT buy a car from him but have a real story to tell in the attempt to prevent others from experiencing what I went through. It all started a week ago when I inquired about a used Lexus SC430 that was posted on Craigslist... it was listed under private party instead of dealers which is a common dishonest ploy used by too many dealers.
I recently bought a 4Runner from Marvin. I saw the car on Craigslist l, inquired about it and he immediately text me back and answers my calls. Very nice on the phone despite having the flu (I found out later). I went that night to look at car. Francisco was there and let me test drive and use his code reader to check car. Put deposit down and he held until I could get to bank and get the rest of money. Overall, friendly, quick, and the car runs great. I had a great experience.
I was looking at a BMW Z4 on the website of this business, and arrived at their location to find that it was in horrendous shape and not at all as advertised. The owner and his employee were also extremely condescending and manipulative. I was glad to leave and take my business elsewhere.
Went to look at a truck, he mentions on the phone it'll need new tires, but failed to mention the half exhaust missing, power Window toggle inserts falling out, Jerry rigged stereo, wasted an hour getting there. Waste of time ALL around
On Sunday he emailed me back and said the car had sold to someone else with no excuse or explanation why he did not follow through on the day before. A few days go by and the listing is still on Craigslist so I inquired once again. He said some guy wanted to buy it but was having financial difficulties so I reminded him I am a cas buyer.
Stay clear of used car dealers that have perpetuated the stereotype of dishonesty.
