The staff is friendly and organized. The prices are a little steep, but if you have your own kayak or canoe, they will transport it for you to the launch area. 5 miler was great.
Suggestions: Wear some type of water shoes, there are a lot of clam & mollusk shells plus sharp river pebbles. Bring a small cooler with water or something to hydrate yourself with, the heat on the river can be deceiving. There are plenty of waterproof containers plus holders for your cell phone…an IMPORTANT investment.
Beautiful route, did the 5 mile trip in about 4 hours without trying to keep moving. They also offer a 9 mile trip which I look forward to taking.
What really annoyed me was on the return. We saw the signs to the landing ramp and grounded the kayaks. While there were five teenagers “sitting around” none of them bothered to welcome us back, inquire about the trip, or direct us on where to go. When we asked how we were getting back to our vehicle we received a flip “your vehicle is just over there” response.
HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF THIS WAS YOUR CHILD. My daughter went down with a friend. Brought our kayak. Met some friends who were renting kayaks followed them put in at the same area as them. We stopped our kayaks at the same place as our friends. A friend took us back to our truck and we drove back to get our kayaks. River rats said we owed them money for stopping there. We offered to pay them. They said no, told us to go in the river swim up stream and get the kayaks and take them up to the highway.
Loved the trip on the Duck River, River Rat’s pricing was good, the equipment was OK for rental gear. Why wouldn’t I rent from them again…lack of customer service.
Do not visit here. Don't do it. Find somewhere else to canoe. If u don't have service on the river u can't call to get a pick up. Would love to give them 0 out of 5 stars but u can't. Will never do business with them again
The travel down the river (we took the 5-mile launch) was great and the beauty of the area just incredible. If you leisurely paddle the river, stop a few times, and float around you are looking at about 4-hours for the trip.
First time kayaking on the Duck River and selected The River Rat’s for the day. Rented two kayak’s and the reservation and check-in process was good. The young lady checking us in was very patient and took great care of us. Upon checking in we were given instructions on where to park our vehicle and the bus trip to the river. The lady driving the bus was awesome and very skilled…major props to her for her backing abilities! Get down to the water and they have one teenager there trying to get everyone out on the water…stayed patient but this caused a lot of delays and frustration on the part of the patrons. Hate to say but the overall process of getting a boat and getting out was very disorganized. No explanation of anything surrounding safety, conditions on the river, or even if we had any questions. Just grab a boat based on what you reserved and go!
ANYONE WHO DOES BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE ARE PUTTING THEMSELVES AND THEIR LOVED ONES AT RISK.
